Bailey's Berry Patch

We loaded up bright and early and took the road north.

After an hour and a half of Tim McGraw tunes and solar panel discussions, we reached our destination.
Bailey's Berry Patch

Buckets were handed out and for some, the competition began.

For others, it wasn't a competition.
Just enjoyment.

The enjoyment of the plopping sound the berries made as they were dropped into the bucket.

The enjoyment of forever capturing the perfect berry.

The enjoyment of witnessing nature at it's best.

Once our berries were bagged, we headed back home.
Hot and tired, but happy.

Happily contemplating blueberry lemonade, blueberry tarts and blueberry preserves.

Saturday

What are two people to do on a kid-less Saturday?
Picnic at the park, of course.
And what should one bring to a kid-less picnic?
Well, other than the obvious quilt, and in my case a Farmboy and his pig…

toasted turkey melts from this cookbook, kettle chips and maybe a nice bottle of wine are always a good choice.

And some ripe, sweet strawberries and chocolate mint Milano cookies for an easy dessert.

Be sure to keep an eye on that pig though. You know they love strawberries just as much as they love truffles.

You might also want to remember your big, floppy sunhat, so you can steal a kiss without being seen by other park goers.

And that is how you spend a pleasant, kid-less Saturday.

What did you do this weekend?

Marburger Farms

A happy Tuesday to you!
I hope you had a lovely Easter.
I spent mine driving home from Austin.

Not the way I usually prefer spending my Easter Sunday, but the antiques and kolache stop in West made it all worth it.

We were kidless this Easter and the Round Top antique week just so happened to fall on the same week. I couldn't pass that up this year.

You know how I love Spring, right? I love it so much that even allergies don't keep me from being outside in and with the warmth, green and birds... even when I feel like I felt this weekend.

It was bad. Really, really bad.

I didn't have any tissues with me and had just one hanky in my bag, so we only made it to Marburger Farms.

But I'm okay with that, because the Farmboy bought me a lovely French, petit writing desk.

Which just so happens to still be in the back of my car.
Hello... boys? I do still live in a house full of boys, right?
Oh well. At least I can enjoy it on my way to the grocery store and cleaners.

Spring is in the Air

Spring update over at the shop.

My dad has flown in from his paradise island for the weekend and my Little Bug niece is having a birthday. So, much fun is to be had in my near future.

I hope your weekend is as beautiful as mine is going to be!

Girly Getaway

This weekend I had a chance to get away for a bit with some girlfriends. We hopped in our cars and drove down to Austin in celebration of a friend's birthday.

What a great weekend!

Three of us left a little earlier than everyone else on Saturday morning. We got down there just in time for a delightful luncheon at the Driskill Hotel. Really, there is just no better place in Austin to sit with your girlfriends, to eat and chat, than the 1886 Cafe & Bakery in the hotel.

Once the rest of the group made it into town we did a bit of shopping, then checked in at the hotel. We got settled in, had a nice rest, more chitchat, then a quick freshen up and off for a birthday dinner.

Sunday gave us more good food, a stroll around the capital and some time spent at my happy place, Uncommon Objects.

Good Times!

Thank you for all the nice comments about the two Valentine swaps I was in.

Hope you have a beautiful Monday!

Retreats are a Good Thing

(I know, Fredericksburg is misspelled. But, I already had the stickers down and really, I misspell everything anyway, I figure one more isn't going to hurt)

The last four days have been very good. I packed my bags and left for a scrapbook retreat with some good friends.

It was really nice to get away from all of the everyday tasks and the regular schedule. (Holy crow, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.)

I decided to start a new project during this trip, because really, I don't have enough half finished scrapbook projects piled up already.

I purchased this kit from Scrapologie several months ago, specifically for the photos of our 6th wedding anniversary trip. And added a few things from my own stash to it.

Keeping in mind that I am extremely slow when it comes to creating of any kind, this is all that I accomplished in 4 whole days. I haven't even done any of the journaling yet.

*************

On another note, I've been awarded this award by two very sweet bloggers. Both Tina of Tinybear and Jenn of Mysteries of the Juniper have passed this on to me. Thank you ladies!

Here are the details:
"The award is forwarded to charming bloggers who invest in the PROXIMITY of space, time and relationships. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. The authors ask that you pass this award on to other blogging friends and include their link in the post. Notify them to let them know that they have been given the award. So please spread the love!"
I would proudly like to pass this award on to the following friends, in no particular order:

Nina of A Little Moment of Peace
Cheryl of Texas Bass Hall of Fame
Joanna of Sweet Finds
Allie of Under the Texan Sun

Okay, I realize now, after going back and reading this post (good grief is it choppy!), that although retreats are a good thing, they can cause serious "retreat hangovers". I'm feeling it in a bad way.

Have a beautiful Monday!

My Weekend

In between time spent with my three boys, this is what I was able to do this weekend. How I managed this much, I'm really not sure.

ATC's for a swap I'm in.

Gathering books to repurpose.

Began a new art journal. Hopefully this one will NOT join the all of the other partially completed art journals I have started in the past. But if so, oh well.

Making a birthday present for a friend.

And some very inspiring reading.

Have a beautiful Monday!

Whew... it's over

The Craft Fair that is and now I can breathe (and eat and sleep) again. I have to say, I don't think I did too bad for a first timer. I took to heart all of the great advice everyone gave me and I think my set up turned out pretty good.

Yes, that is a look of slight irritation on my face. Really a person can only have their picture taken so many times. My Farmboy got a new camera that morning and evidently chose me for his subject. But that is all I can complain about. I have to tell ya, I really think I'm the luckiest person in the world when it comes to that Farmboy! He was so there for me this weekend... 110% in every way imaginable! Love that guy!!!

Anyway, I was up until 2AM the night before making sure I had everything and that all was just right (OCD, yes I know). I set everything up in my sitting room just how I wanted it and then took a picture and printed it out. When I got to the church the next morning (with a Venti Caramel Macchiato and my picture in hand) I got everything set up in less than 30 minutes and then had nothing to do for the next hour and a half before the fair opened.

There was a really good turn out and I had quite a few friends show up too! A GINORMOUS THANK YOU to you guys! Totally made my day! My little family even came by in the middle of the day and hovered for awhile (that's my E, looking bored out of his mind, in the picture up there).

I finally got to meet my blogging friend Allie. And what an absolute sweetheart she is too! Look what she brought me!

Is that not the most wonderful stack of old sheet music?! Again, thank you SO much Allie! Don't forget to email me... we still need to do McKinney!

I did this show with a MeetUp group I'm a member of, which in my opinion, is such a great way to do a fair. It was really nice to have the support of other vendors set up right next to me. There were 7 of us all together. One of the seven was a fellow Etsy Cottage Style/ LolliShop member... Stevie of SugarLoveHoney. She is just as sweet as can be and I'm not the only one who thinks so! Capin' Davy Cannon Swine was quite taken with her. Bless her heart! When the pirate wasn't outside hitting all of the carnival games winning tickets, he was standing in front of Stevie's table talking nonstop to her. But that's just him and she was an absolute doll to sit and listen to his constant chatter. She made such an impression on him, he continued to talk about her all through the evening after the show! You have a fan Stevie!

And speaking of LolliShops, I need to give a big shout out to Sadie! Sadie was so sweet to feature me on the LolliShops blog this weekend. Thank you so much Sadie and thank you to all of you who stopped by over there and left such wonderfully sweet comments for me! I really, really appreciate it!

Okay, I'm off to focus on Silver Bella now. Have a beautiful Monday!

I *Heart* Austin...

and Advil is my bestest friend!

So the Farmboy had to be in Austin this past weekend... not necessarily working-working, but to be there in case for some mumbojumbotechnicalcomputerthingymabob reason. So Pretty Lady and Capin' Davy Cannonswine and I went down to join him.

I spent all day Wednesday doing laundry, because there is nothing worse than going on a trip without clean underwear, and Thursday morning finished it up and packed it up. However, while taking a quick break, I checked email. Come to find out my body isn't as young as I think it is and hunching over my laptop when it is sitting on a stool and sending email that way isn't, evidently, the smart thing to do. When I stood up, I couldn't stand up. The pain in my lower back was terrible! So I popped some Advil and got the kids to load up the car.

My MIL had come over to ride to the rent car place. Farmboy had reserved a car for us so that we could all ride home together in his car... MIL was to drive my car back home once we got our rent car. We get there, mind you we are already running 30 minutes behind my planned schedule, I hobble from the parking lot into the office, stand in line for too long and then get to the desk only to be told that I can't drop the car off in Austin. No one-way tickets from this shop people! (it doesn't say this on the website) "Oh, but don't worry, we will take care of you and get you a car from the McKinney shop." (which means I have to turn around and go the wrong direction) They get off the phone to tell me "so sorry, they don't have any cars." I take MIL home apologizing profusely, fill my car up with gas (which wasn't already done, because we weren't supposed to take it) and feed the starving pirate in the backseat before he starts a mutiny.

Now we are on the road... an hour and 15 minutes behind my planned schedule, the Advil hasn't touched my back, but I think that's okay because it doesn't hurt as long as I'm sitting and the 4 hour trip flies by due to the non-stop talking teenage girl sitting in the front passenger seat.

We get there and it takes me, what seems like, another 4 hours to get out of the car. We were quite the sight walking through the lobby... me looking like a very old grandma who has misplaced her walker, Pretty Lady loaded down like a pack mule and Capin' Davy Cannonswine continuously and loudly asking "when is Dad leaving his office?" After Farmboy showed up and they all finished with the "need a walker" jokes and more Advil was popped, we went to the house of the one with magic hands! Otherwise known to us as the mother of our god daughters. Thank the heavens for massage therapists! Anyway, she worked on me for quite awhile and told me it wasn't a muscle in my back, but yes, it was a muscle in my butt! Guess it's all of that bike riding and laundry. When we left I was still hobbling, but could stand upright.

The rest of the weekend was spent hobbling around Austin, popping Advil that was working now, eating good Tex-Mex, watching the bats fly out from under the bridge, and treasure hunting.

Now for the good stuff. I went to Uncommon Objects on Friday. The rhinestone strawberry brooch and velvet rose embellished purse I was eyeballing the last time were both still there. And they were both still more than I'm willing to pay for them. I did find a 1939 wallpaper sample book (the best treasure from there) and also picked up a little pink lingerie box and some bingo cards. I cannot tell you how excited I was to find that wallpaper book. I have been searching high and low in every shop I've been going into, for wallpaper.

I had meant to check before we left to see if anything good was going to be going on in Austin while we were there, but didn't get to it. So I planned to hit the Jerrell flea market on our way home. I didn't, because it turns out that Luck was on my side and must have just been messing with me when it came to my back. :) Sunday morning we went down to Lake Lady Bird (for those of you who know Austin, that sounds so weird to me... should be Town Lake!) to fulfill the pirate's need for water. He evidently had spent too much time on dry land and was pretty sure if he didn't set sail soon he would shrivel up and die... so we went kayaking. Not quite the pirate vessel he was after, but it did the trick. On the way back to the hotel afterwards we were driving by the Civic Center and the sign happened to catch my eye. I screeched to Farmboy to turn the car around... the Austin City Wide Garage Sale was going on! He asked if I really wanted to go, seeing that my shorts were soaking wet from boating. "Well YES!!!" Sometimes he is just plain crazy in the head! What do I care about chaffing in places that you don't want to be chaffed when there are treasures to be found!

Sarah and I had been chatting about this just last month and I wasn't about to miss it. They call it a garage sale, but it's a flea market with lots and lots of wonderful stuff and the prices, for the most part, are right. There were only two booths, both filled with gorgeousness, that I wanted almost everything in, but their prices were not flea market prices. Oh well. I did purchase enough goodies to make me happy! :) The family couldn't hang with me so they left to get some lunch and thought I was crazy that I would rather stay there than eat. To each his own! And I want to say thank you to Joanna. She posted the other day about how she always asks the dealer for their best price. Normally I have trouble doing this. I have trouble talking face to face with strangers anyway, unless they are under 4 feet tall and can't tie their shoes yet. Anyhoo, I did it every time and get this... IT WORKED!!!!

I have to show you this picture and then I'll stop rambling.

There were maybe 8 of these tables set up like this and depending on what was on them, they were priced all under $10, by the pound. I tried 4 times to dig through all of these linens... I tried the pillowcase table, the tablecloth table, the crochet table and the apron table (you know how I LOVE aprons!) I couldn't do it. Every time, I had to stop and walk away... there was so much, I had to walk away each time because I was so overwhelmed!

Alright, now that I've probably bored you to tears with my drama, here's to a beautiful Monday!
