The Weekend Getaway

To celebrate our 6th year wedding anniversary, my farmboy and I went on a weekend getaway. Thursday morning I headed down south to Austin where I met up with him. He was already there working. We stopped by my favorite shop in Austin and picked up a mid 1920's ledger and a jar of vintage millinery.

The pages in this ledger are perfectly water stained. Love it. I'll share a little more about the shop later.

So after a bit of shopping we ended the evening with a wonderful Tex-Mex dinner (my favorite) and some delicious ice cream from Amy's. The next day we meandered our way to Fredericksburg. On the way we stopped in Johnson City and picked up some essentials, perfectly made beef and turkey jerky and a plush bluebird. Then over to a little antique shop for some more millinery and an antique duck call. Because who doesn't need one of those? While there I found a GORGEOUS Victorian photo album that was full of old photographs. It even had it's own stand with a little drawer at the bottom of it. To die for! Farmboy said no to it though... a little too pricey and he was right.

Further along we stopped at this really rustic antique shop. I seriously felt like I had fleas and spiders all over me after we left. If I liked creepy dolls heads this was the place to get them... but I don't. They were dirt cheap too. I did pick up a little baggie of buttons all because of the pretty little pink ones in the bag. I've already used one. They aren't going to last very long! Farmboy got a small pair of rhinestone broaches and surprised me with them... too sweet he is!

Just outside of Fredericksburg is an amazing nursery, Wildseed Farms. Every time we are out that way we stop in to enjoy the flowers, the butterfly pavilion and the homemade ice cream. I have always wanted to stand in the middle of a field of red poppies. I came really, really close. Not quite the middle, but good enough for me!

(talk about happy... look at that silly grin!)

In Fredericksburg we stayed in the most wonderful little place. We were in the Carriage House at Shady Creek Bed and Breakfast. The perfect little secluded place. We shared it with a lovely, prissy goose who I named Miss Amelia, two separate duck families (this is where that duck call farmboy had to have came in handy. It was The West Side Duck Story all weekend! Oh my!) and a nutra rat in the creek. We had quite the animal entertainment!

Saturday morning we headed out to Enchanted Rock.

Now I wanted to go, I love hiking and nature and all of that, but I also wanted to go into town and shop. He talked me into it and we climbed the thing. At one point it seemed so incredibly steep that I said "no more", but he knows just what to say to keep me going. Challenge me will you? I showed him!

Oh wait, so did that little girl behind me. Well, at least I did it.

Anyway, we had lots of fun, bought lots of stuff in town, ate some wonderful meals and one not so good meal. It was a great weekend and just what we both needed.

Sounds like you had a great time! I would love to get away with my hubby like that. When the girls get a little older, I guess, and don't need me quite so much. What a sweet little bluebird. Nice finds!

Alisa - puhleeese tell me what shop you went to in Austin. I live here and still can't find a journal or millinery flowers! Amy's ice cream rocks! I've made that trip a zillion times on my way to Kerrville. I LOVE that you hate those creepy doll heads cause I do too!!!(How about putting people heads on birds? Yikes) Happy anniversary. You're the one who had those beautiful blue bridesmaid skirts, right? I loved those. Nancy
