Down the Rabbit Hole

Oh dear.
Where is everyone?

They are late!
Late, late, late!

SHE is late
and
they are late.

Tsk, Tsk...
Where can everyone be?
The tea will be cold!

OH!  Goodness me, thank the White Queen's stars, you've arrived!
How do you do?  How do you do?
Would you like a cup?  Would you like a nibble?

I dare say, you know, you are quite late!
Tsk, tsk.
Is your watch not working?
Never mind that.
Do sit down.
Hurry now.

There is still some tea left.
Yes, left.  You see, he has already been here.
Who?!  Why the Hatter of course.
You do remember him, do you not?
From when you came before?

A very lovely time it was, yes indeed it was.
You know, I know of a quite good clock maker...
eh-hem... if you need your watch repaired.
Eh-hem, well yes.
What was I saying?

Oh yes, yes.
We had a jolly good time...
riddles and songs and all.
You know how it goes.

Please, please, help yourself.
There is plenty to chose from.

Yes, yes... please don't dawdle.
No time for dawdling.

No, no time for that.
Unless you're Dum or Dee of course.
OH!
Oh, no.. no you are not either of them.
So sorry.

Well now, I do so hate to be a party pooper...
but I believe it is time.
Yes, yes... most definitely time to go.
So sorry, but we do keep a tight schedule around here, you know.
It was very nice to see you again, but...
Many more cups to sip.
Many more friends to see.

Ahhh, yes, yes....
eh-hem, about that clock maker...........

Would You Like a Little More Tea?

You haven’t had any yet, you say?
Well please, sit down!
You pour and I’ll tell you a little tale…

There once was a girl from…….
Oopsie daisy… ahem… wrong tale.
Let’s start again, shall we?

There is a place I have heard of…
a magical place of giggles, sweets, songs and fancy.
But to get there, is the trick. For you see, it is in a far, far, far away country.
And in that far, far, far away country is a forest.
A very, very deep forest.
Now if you want to find this magical place, you will have to travel to the center of the very, very deep forest in the far, far, far away country; which, mind you, will probably take a fortnight to reach.
But you will know you have reached the center, when you have come upon a meadow. Not an ordinary meadow…
A toadstool meadow.
(don’t eat the red ones… nasty little things they are.)

But, beware of the sleeping gnomes.
You must be as quiet as a church mouse in order to slip by without waking them. Which, believe you me, you don’t want to do. Waking them, that is. But you must get past them, for in the center of the toadstool meadow is a brier patch.

And in the middle of that brier patch is a tree.

Push past the wild brier rose, but be careful not to let it bite you, and through the sweet jasmine vines and there you will find it.

The Door.

If you can unlock the door and slip through to the other side, the path you will see will lead to much glee!

It starts early in the morning,

when the caged bird sings.

It’s a party. A party of Tea!

Decorations abound and abloom.
The table is laid…

Cakes and sweets

Pies and treats.

Once the tea has been poured,

by the host of the party,
and a grand, flourishing bow has been bowed,
the songs can be sung, the riddles riddled and the tales can be spun.

When the candles have burned down and twilight is settling in,

the path home will appear and good byes will go round…
‘til next year.

Spring Tea Party

**Edited~ I wrote this post yesterday morning (Tuesday- it's now Wednesday afternoon) but before I could get the pictures in it, our power went out. Over 22 hours without power makes it challenging to keep positive thoughts in one's head.) **

Well, yesterday began in a whirlwind of vacuum cleaner hoses, feather dusters and pressed linens. Even the farmboy helped out in the cleaning frenzy. All of this was in preparation for the "Spring Tea Party"!

You know, one of the things I've learned as I have gotten older (and wiser) is to love life for it's imperfections. Yesterday was one of those imperfect days and yet, it was WONDERFUL! Well, except for the fact that my dad is sick... that's what started yesterday on it's way to imperfect.

My parents flew in last week and stopped here for the evening on their way to my cousin's wedding. They flew back in Sunday night and were supposed to be here until Tuesday morning before flying back to the island. So I planned for the tea party while they were here. Like I said the morning was a whirlwind of preparation activity. At around noonish my farmboy and I ran up to the grocery store to pick up some yummies for the party. While there we stopped for some sushi and coffee, because really who doesn't have a Caramel Macchiato with their shrimp rolls! Anyway, while sitting there my brother calls and tells me maybe I should bring my party to my sister's house, where my parents are staying, "because Dad just got back from the doctor's and there is a 50/50 chance he may have to go to the hospital and have surgery and we are all over here and mom and CJ really shouldn't leave in case dad gets worse"... and so on and so on! Somewhat typical of my dear little brother, he made it sound as if we were already gathering in black veils! Needless to say, it's not that bad... thank goodness!

We had to wait until E got out of school (last day!) and then gathered everything up and headed over there. Dad's looking pretty rough and his tummy hurts really bad, but his spirits are good and he keeps asking for a cherry cheese danish and coffee! Sorry Dad, Mom says only broth!

So in a mad rush, because by then it was already 3ish, I set up the tea party in my sister's kitchen, the little bug got all dolled up in her finest (white elbow gloves included!) and my sister ran around trying to get ready to go to a tea party then right off to play a softball game!

Once I had everything set up and we began, we had the best time! There wasn't a thing Whitney forgot when she put this party package together! The Jasmine Tea from China Town was repeatedly complimented... delish! And the "Tea Talk" game was an absolute HOOT! Seriously, we had so much fun answering those questions! It was really funny how we each kept drawing a question that really suited each of us individually!

In the end we had a tea cup meet its end when it crashed to the floor due to a flurry of excitement over goodie bags! As well as a thimble from a Friendship Punch-Favor. But no worries! Once we dried those sweet little tears all was well again and the fun continued!

Over all, it was the most perfect-imperfect tea party I have both ever given and ever attended!

Vintage Linens

Show and Tell, hosted by Cerri of Little Pink Studio, is all about your vintage linens today.

I have a lot of these which have been handed down to me from my mom. They were all originally my grandmother's or my great grandmother's.

These first two are baby quilts that belonged to my mom and my uncle. I can't remember who made them, my grandma or my great grandma.
Obviously this one was my mom's... sweet little kittens on the fabric.

This one, my uncle's, is made of scraps from family clothing.

I love aprons! Here are a few made by my great grandmother.
Pretty matching adult and child aprons. Please ignore the wrinkles. They were recently washed and haven't been ironed yet.

Here are a couple of floral... love the sheer one.

Tablecloths...
This embroidered one was done by my mom.

This one was all hand done by my great grandmother and has four napkins too.

Peach with grape leaves.

This is my favorite one and was my paternal grandmother's.

A sweet little child's tea tablecloth.

If you are interested I posted last month about all of my embroidered tea linens here.

Thanks for visiting and thanks to Cerri for hosting.
Have a beautiful day!
