The Golden Age

When I was 14 and a freshman in high school, we were required to read
I loved it.
After all the lessons, homework, and tests we watched the 1974 film version with
Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.
Again, I loved it.
The Great Gatsby was my first taste of the "roaring 20s".
I was enamored.

A couple of weeks ago we went out and saw
I thought it was great.
{and luckily Uggie, the very talented Jack Russell, co-stared, so the Farmboy enjoyed the film as well}

And last night we watched
Oh my goodness!  Is this movie ever my cup of tea!
Loved it!
Set in Paris- what's not to love about that...
fantastical "day dreaming"- I know a little about that...
and Gil's "Golden Age"- I'm right there with Gil on that one.
Also, I'll admit to falling a little bit there at the meeting of Hemingway.
{maybe something about that tousled, slightly wild-eyed, self-assured confidence... I'm not sure}
Oh, and Dali... he made me smile.  Smile big.
I'm sure there will be random "rhinoceros" declarations in this house now.

Though I know I can find a little golden glow in most eras,
yes, the 1920s is the Golden Age for me.

What about you?  What is your Golden Age?

PS. I just realized the movie poster I borrowed is the French version not the English.

Midnight in Paris - one of my favorite movies this year! I love that French poster - look at that Van Gogh sky!
Wouldn't it have been fabulous to live in Paris in the twenties!

I keep hearing about that movie, guess I'll have to watch it some day. I love the starry night sky and the city poster. Wow!

I've never really thought about a favourite decade. But there was a frantic wildness about the roaring 20s that does fascinate me.

I'm not sure which decade would have been for me..Anywhere from the 20's throught the 50's. I want to see both of those movies! Thank you for the reviews!

I loved that movie too and yesterday I was browsing the bookstore for the book The Great Gatsby. I love that era too and am looking forward to researching it more - the music and the fashions - I think it was an exiting time!

This sounds like my kind of film, although I hadn't heard about it before, I will certainly be watching it now. :-)

Have you seen some of the pictures from the new version of The Great Gatsby being made? The costumes look beautiful.

Haven't seen this movie ( not a big fan of Owen), but i appreciate your love of the era. I think my golden era is now, while I am in my 60's. I would live in Paris anytime...or Rome...or Tuscany. Love to watch the traveling shows...dream on:)

Your post was the first I heard of Midnight in Paris. It sounds delightful and I will have to see it. I am quite partial to the Art Deco style of the 20's and adore fringe and sequins.

Agreed! The movie is dreamy and wonderful. I wasn't a big fan of Owen before this, but I think this is the perfect role for him (finally!) I'm enjoying your blog --great creativity here, and refreshingly uplifting to read! Thanks!
