The Scent of Christmas

Scents can take us back... to a specific place or time or even person.

I know that I can't walk by a Crabtree and Evelyn without immediately thinking of my grandmother.

And when your sniffer is as strong as mine, the past is always visiting. In fact, I have a tendency to smell smells that nobody else in my family can. And this is really crazy... I dream smell.

So back to the point of this post. The scent of Christmas.

Evergreens, peppermint, a burning fireplace, oranges, Christmas dinner, spices, snow, hot chocolate, baking cookies.

I could keep going, but instead I'll tell you what the scent of Christmas is for me... if you haven't already figured it out by now.

It's a mixture of evergreens, oranges, cinnamon and cloves.

Oh, how I love this scent! I can smell it anytime of the year and it suddenly becomes Christmas time.

So tell me, what does Christmas smell like to you?

I'm with you on the evergreens-oranges-cinnamon-cloves smell. I can smell it now just thinking about it. I love the little "Cuties" mandarin oranges, and pumpkin pie with the cloves & cinnamon. Have a Merry Christmas Alisa.

I love this post Alisa! and I love the photos...I want to go buy cloves now! The smells that remind me of Christmas are cinnamon and bayberry. And I always make sure that lots of that smell is around during the holidays- it's incredible how smell effects us. They say it is the strongest memory-trigger. I hope you and your sweet family have a beautiful Christmas! xo natalea

Alisa, your photos are absolutely beautiful!!! The colors - wow!
Truly Christmasy! I also love those scents at Christmas! Especially the oranges and cloves - it's evocative of Christmases long past in Colonial times. Williamsburg-like!

Thanks for posting these beautiful images.
