Keeping It Real {The Studio}

So as I said in the last post,

the studio is getting a make over.

It's been a long time coming.

{I'm DOing}

 

The first step was emptying it.

So I did.

Everything went into the room next door

except for the big furniture pieces,

which are getting make overs too.

 

 

I thought ahead while emptying the room

and pulled out some tools and supplies and a few projects.

{see last post}

However, it seems I only somewhat thought ahead.

My big girl camera is in the very back corner of that over-stuffed room.

Thank goodness for phone cameras.

Now to convince the Farmboy not to call Hoarders.

Conversations From the Meadow House

As he cracks open the can of paint he asks,

"Why aren't we painting it white?  It's just a closet."

 

She replies,

"Because Sisal is pretty."

 

About an hour later...

 

He cracks open a second can of paint and asks,

"Why aren't we painting the shelves and trim the same color as the walls?  It's just a closet."

 

She replies,

"Because Glass of Milk is pretty with Sisal."

 

Two coats and an hour and a half later...

 

He's putting the lid on the paint can and says,

"This was a lot of work for a closet."

 

She's staring at the ceiling and replies,

"I think we should change the light fixture out for a pretty crystal chandelier."

 

He looks at her incredulously and says,

"But, it's just a closet!"

 

Seriously.

One would think, after 10 years of marriage,

conversations such as this would no longer be happening around here.

Week 1 ~ The Sideboard Reorg

Beware:
Dirty Pictures Ahead

Well, I did it.
I wasn't just all talk.
Granted, it was just a small job, but I'm a believer in "baby steps".

This week I cleaned out my sideboard.

Before:

I had reached a point where I had just started cramming things into here.
I had the china up in a cupboard in the kitchen, which really made no sense considering the whole reason I bought the sideboard was to hold china and such.
The drawers were crammed full of linens and I had two more stacks tucked away in the laundry room.

During:

I pulled everything out and purged, getting rid of a lot. Including half of all my linens.
Washed the piece of furniture squeaky clean (tightened knobs after the photo)and then started moving stuff back in.
(someone has a bird fetish in this house)

After:

One side now holds serving pieces that don't get used every day and the other side holds china, Fostoria and glasses that also are not used every day.
I still have a few more place settings of china that need to go in and at Thanksgiving I found a box of crystal that evidently my parents gave me when they moved. I didn't even realize I had it. So once those items all get unpacked they will go straight into the sideboard.
On my weekend agenda, is to go to The Container Store and get containers that fit into the cubbies to make it easier to fetch stuff out of them.

The only thing that I pulled out that I haven't found a home for yet is a stack of aprons. But I'll find a place for them.

Organizing My Life...

Organization

It never fails, at the beginning of a new year, that I make a decision to get organized.
I'm sure it is like that for a lot of you, as well.

I usually start off well and always have good intentions.
But I really never get very far.

This year,
the year of Action,
It. Will. Happen.

And to help make that happen, I'm going to follow along with Heather and Marianne.

Heather is totally keeping it real on her blog,
Organizing My Life... One Week at a Time.

And she's already made accomplishments that can be seen.
That's always a big help for me...
if I can see that I'm making headway, then I'm more likely to continue forward.

Marianne of Songbird is on a roll too with her Gitter Done challenge.

She will be sharing her "gitter done" posts on Fridays.

I think joining these two ladies will help keep me going with this action. However to be quite honest, when I think of posting photos of my "hot spots" I start to twitch.
I was taught not to air my dirty laundry in public, after all.

We'll see if I can overcome the twitches.
